Walker Federal Services (WFS) completed a design-build renovation of the Dental Laboratory located in Room E263 of the E-Wing at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida. The project required WFS to perform a comprehensive evaluation of the existing space, develop architectural and engineering design documents, and execute construction activities necessary to support the installation of new dental laboratory equipment and workstations. The work included field verification of existing conditions, development of design packages, and preparation of construction drawings and specifications in compliance with VA Technical Information Library (TIL) standards and applicable federal, state, and local building codes.

As part of the renovation, WFS constructed new interior walls and a doorway to create a dedicated and isolated vent hood area within the laboratory. The team installed new cabinetry coordinated with vendor-provided equipment layouts and completed interior upgrades including flooring, doors, door hardware, lighting fixtures, and painted finishes to meet VA facility standards. The project also involved maintaining continuity of existing building systems such as fire alarm devices and wiring, replacing ceiling components as needed, and ensuring all construction activities complied with infection control protocols to protect ongoing hospital operations.

Throughout the project, WFS implemented strict safety, quality control, and infection control measures required for construction within an active healthcare environment. Temporary barriers and negative air pressure systems were installed to isolate the work area, and all construction activities were phased to minimize disruptions to patient care and facility operations. Hazardous materials such as asbestos and lead were addressed in accordance with applicable regulations, and all systems and installations were tested and certified prior to project closeout. Upon completion, WFS delivered updated as-built documentation and ensured the renovated dental laboratory was fully operational and compliant with VA design and safety requirements.
