Walker Federal Services successfully completed the design and construction of a new
Prosthetics Lab at the Viera VA Clinic in Melbourne, Florida. The project involved
converting an existing 340-square-foot kitchen area within the PT/OT department into a
modern prosthetics laboratory. WFS managed the full scope of work, beginning with
demolition of existing finishes, cabinetry, appliances, and select interior walls. The team
reconfigured the space with new walls, a widened doorway, and revised circulation to
ensure proper access while preserving the functionality of adjacent rehabilitation areas.

The renovation required a complete integration of architectural, mechanical, electrical,
plumbing, telecommunications, and fire protection systems to support the specialized
equipment needed for prosthetic services. WFS coordinated asbestos abatement,
installed new finishes, and ensured that all systems met VA standards, current codes, and
energy management requirements. Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) protocols
were implemented throughout the project to protect patients and staff during
construction.

Through careful phasing and close coordination with VA staff, WFS minimized disruptions
to the medical center’s daily operations while delivering a state-of-the-art prosthetics lab.
The completed facility provided a highly functional and fully code-compliant environment
tailored to the needs of veterans requiring prosthetic care, underscoring WFS’s ability to
deliver complex healthcare renovations in sensitive, occupied environments.
